Pembrokeshire
The Llangwm Ladies' Choir was founded in the 1940s by Mrs Lilian Fawcett, daughter of a former minister of Galilee Baptist Chapel. The choir was composed of women from various local places of worship and was known for its wide repertoire of secular and popular music.
Key figures included Mrs Fawcett, who was the choir's director, and Mrs Lizzie Roach, the accompanist. The choir was known for its lively spirit and often performed at various venues across South Pembrokeshire.
Notable events included a platform collapse during a performance at Wolfscastle and a spontaneous rendition of a risqué song at Johnston after a disparaging remark about Llangwm by the vicar. The choir continued to perform until the late 1950s. Mrs Fawcett remarried and left the village but Mr Ashley Davies, a young teacher at Llangwm School, took over as conductor and ensured the choir's survival until he also left the village.
