Pembrokeshire
W. Grenville Thomas, a native of the hamlet of Guildford, was educated at Llangwm School (1938-45), Haverfordwest Boys’ Grammar School (1945-52), and the University of Wales, Cardiff (1952-56). For almost his entire career he taught at Milford Haven Grammar School, where he was Head of History for 27 years (1961-88). Grenville was the author of The People of the Covenant (1988), Llangwm Through the Ages (1991), Llangwm Essays and Sketches (1992), Some Remarkable People of Llangwm and Hook (published posthumously, 2018), and numerous articles on aspects of the history of Llangwm, Haverfordwest, and Milford Haven where he lived for 45 years. Grenville died on May 30th 2002. He is buried at the Deerland Road Cemetery, Llangwm.

The truth of his character, the liberality of his disposition and the kindness of his heart endeared him to relatives, friends and dependants while to her who was for 25 years the companion of his life he has left an ever enduring remembrance of the tenderest affection. Also of his widow who died in her 94th year on November 5th 1914 having survived her husband 48 years.

This tomb is erected by his grateful and affectionate widoe Anne Barlow daughter of Philip Champion Crespigny of Aldborough in the county of Sussex. 'He was a true and just (juft) in all his dealing, He burl no body by word or deed, He bore no malice or hatred in his heart, He kept his tongue from evil speaking from evil speaking (fpeaking) lying and slandering (flandering), He used (ufed) hospitality ( hofpitality) to everyone without grudging, And hedid unto all men as he would they should (fhould) do unto him. His ways were always of pleasantness (pleafantnefs) and all his paths were peace.

He enlisted in the RAF Volunteer reserve in MOD's Meteorological Department. In 1941 he volunteered as a pilot and was posted to 226.He flew a Mitchell Mark 2 bomber in Operation Crossbow (1943) bombing German V weapon sites 25th November 1943 and took part in a raid on the Atlantic Wall near Calais and the plane was hit by flak. They flew the stricken plane over the Channel, but it crashed near Dover killing him and 3 crew November 25 1943.
